The President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Prof. Adesina Sodiya has outlined some of the achievement of the group in the just ended 2022, expressing optimism in achieving more in 2023, reports ITREALMS.
He singled out a few to include improved recognition and good governance, inclusive growth and collaboration, enhanced programmes and activities to name but a few.
He also revealed that NCS membership is now made up of over 15,000 professionals and the society has remained relevant in promoting IT developmental values and steadfast in the pursuance of its goals and vision.
“NCS is the umbrella body of all Information Technology (IT) professionals and practitioners in the country, with over 15,000 memberships across many interest groups and stakeholders serving the interest of all and the nation in the IT eco System,” he said.
Some of major achievements of NCS in 2022, he said, was in improved recognition and good governance which has facilitated NCS members serving in many government committees, stressing that these were achieved because of the improved relationship with the ministry and effective engagement with government.
NCS, he revealed, was appointed as a member of presidential committee on digital economy and e-government; additionally, NCS is represented on startup bill committee that was recently passed, and NCS is represented on governing board of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
On the areas of inclusive growth and collaboration, Prof. Sodiya, further told ITREALMS that NCS concluded collaboration across board for an inclusive and robust society.
“Membership of NCS has massively increased through these interactions in addition to enhanced programmes and activities,” he said.
The 2022 calendar of activities, Prof. Sodiya said, was prepared and released in November 2021 for advanced planning and necessary budgetary provisions by both individual members and corporate bodies.
“The activities and programmes were carefully structured to expose members to modern skills and development in the field of Information Technology.

Equally, he said that the 2022 NCS Jim Ovia scholarship for 35 students comprised of 20 undergraduates, 10 masters and 5 Doctorate was conducted and is yearly funded by Mr. Jim Ovia, Chairman of Zenith Ban plc, through the Jim Ovia Foundation, among others.
On the international scene, NCS, he said has partnership with several organisations including the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), British Computer Society, Oracle, Cisco, have been waxing stronger, while continuing the engagement with IT professional bodies in Africa, just as the Africa Computing Societies is underway.
