How Emoekpere, Rudman emerged @ATCON election - ITREALMS

The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), now has new National Executive Council (NEC) led by Mr. Tony Izuagbe Emoekpere as president and Mr. Muhammed Rudman as vice president, reports

Their emergence followed the election of NEC at the 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Oriental Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos on Tuesday.

Emoekpere takes over from the immediate past-president, Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani of Medallion Communications who did not run for a second term.

The election conducted by a constituted electoral body led by the Head of Regulatory Affairs at IHS Towers, Mr. Damian Udeh as Chairman and the Executive Secretary of ATCON, Mr. Ajibola Olude as Secretary.

The electoral had announced that other members of the new NEC to run for the next two years, comprised Mr. Ejikeme Onyeaso as 2nd Vice President; Mr. Olawale Owoeye, National Secretary; Mrs. Aderonke Adeyegbe, Coordinator, Consulting; Mr. Lekan Balogun, Coordinator, Internet Service Providers; Mr. Martins Shakarho; Coordinator, Value Added Services; and Mr. Olabode Ojo, Coordinator, Infrastructure Service Providers.

In his post-election acceptance speech, both Emoekpere and Rudman expressed satisfaction over the conduct and pledged their commitments to lead via team work in the next two years.

Applauding the immediate past president, Engr. Nnamani, Emoekpere pledged to also operate a single term of two years, before handing over to another elected president.

In addition, he pledged to tackle the issue to redirect the thinking of Nigerians who are still planning to leave the country for greener pastures, stressing that ATCON will work with organisations to re-design incentive package and training for staff that will make them remain on their jobs.

On funding, Emoekpere said ATCON new leadership plans to push for single-digit interest rates from financial institutions and investments companies that will make funds available to ATCON members to drive projects that will benefit Nigerians.

While promising to building on the advocacy programmes of the past NEC by engaging more with industry stakeholders to key into the vision of ATCON in the area of local content development.

ITREALMS gathered that Mr. Emoekpere, who is the Chief Executive Officer, Anchor Telecoms, while his first Vice President, Mr. Muhammed Rudman is the Chief Executive Officer, Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN).

Further, 
ITREALMS recalled that Mr. Tony Izuagbe Emoekpere prides himself as a C-Level Executive and accredited Project Manager with over 23 years of experience in Telecommunications Management, ICT Service Provisioning, Infrastructure Design, Implementation, and Maintenance. He is a graduate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, a member of the International Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a member of the Project Management Institute. He is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School after undergoing the Owner Manager Executive Program.

Additionally, Emoekpere commenced his career with Nigeria’s premier ISP, the Linkserve Ltd as a Network Support Engineer and then a Wireless Engineer responsible for providing Radio Links to Enterprises.

He later joined MTN Nigeria Communications Limited at the inception of their services in Nigeria as a Radio Implementation Engineer where he was personally responsible for over 250 live Base Station sites in the network, participating in the launching of MTN services in the South-Western Region of Nigeria. Tony later became a Project Manager Ibadan Region in MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, responsible for all Regional Projects including the Marshal Plan Site Build for the region whose monthly targets were exceeded till the end of the project under his watch.

Equally, Emoekpere had a brief stint as the Operation Director at Egypro Nigeria Limited which he assisted in establishing as the 3rd best contractor to MTN Nigeria Limited in 9 months. Tony then founded Anchor Telecoms in 2005 first as a Project Director and then CEO. In over 18 years under his watch, the company has grown from providing Site Construction services serving one client to providing full Turn-Key Communication Infrastructure Services serving all MNO’s, major InfraCo’s and OEMs in Nigeria, with active operations in Ghana, Cameroun, South Africa, and has executed projects in Benin Republic, Liberia, Gabon, Togo, Sierra Leone, and Equatorial Guinea.
