PHC: Oba Badiru optimistic on improved Lagos primary health care delivery - ITREALMS

The Oba of Langbasa in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos, HRM Alhaji Hafiz Olakunle Badiru, has expressed optimism in the state's health care delivery that ensures improved healthiness of the grassroots people, reports ITREALMS.

The monarch also known as Elejigbo of Langbasa gave this optimism, while receiving a delegation of the Lagos State Advocacy Team (SAT) led by the ATM State Coordinator, Mrs Bunmi Tejumola, in his palace recently.

Appreciating the visiting team, the Monarch pledged to take up their highlights with the chairman of the Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) as some of the issues identified are within the implementation of the council.

"Some of the things mentioned are to be provided by the LCDA like the chairs. The council can only employ staff between level 1-6; nurses, doctors are beyond their levels solely for PHCs,” the Monarch said.

Also, he said, that decision to discuss with the LCDA Chairman was to expedite actions on some of the issues identified, stressing that those issues beyond the council are often handled by the Civil Service Commission.

Lagos State government, he said, is aware of some of these issues identified based on an earlier tour of all the primary health care facilities in the state.

Earlier, Mrs Tejumola said the team’s visit was based on issues which cannot be resolved by the Community Based Organisations (CBOs) at the community levels to the appropriate authority.

Tejumola identified some of these issues raised during the Clients Exit Interview (CEi) and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with key stakeholders in the Addo Primary Health Centre (PHC) as lack of night security guard, lack of pipe borne water, inadequate chairs at the facility, non-functional fans cum electrical fittings, fixing of 2nd entrance gate and lack of personnel.

Equally speaking, the Coordinator, Network of Persons With Hiv-AIDs in Nigeria (NEPHWAN), Mr Patrick Akpan cited similar issues identified at Araromi PHCs as well for prompt response from the stakeholders.

In her remarks, the TB Coordinator in the state, Mrs Ifelunwa Aipoh thanked the monarch for the audience granted the team.
