Reacting after the election, Mr. Fanowopo said that his short-term programme would be to prepare a good ground for Osun United in the second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL).

ITREALMS gathered that Fanawopo won against the incumbent Mr. Rasaq Mustapha Ishola in a keenly contested election this week to emerge as the new Osun FA Chairman for thr next four years.

“I think we should not dwell on the election again. The election has come and gone. Let’s first of all thank Almighty God for the election and everybody is a winner,” Fanowopo declared.

He also said "Let me congratulate the immediate past chairman, Alhaji Rasaq Ishola for the successful organization of the Elective Congress because there is no success without a successor.

“The most important thing for us now is that of short-term planning is to make sure that we prepare a very good ground so that our premium football club, Osun United will have a conducive environment to play the Nigeria National League (NNL) in Osogbo.

“We need to appeal to the State Government and football loving Governor that we need to upgrade our stadium so that NNL organisers would not take us out of Osogbo again to play our league.

“We don’t want to make Ibadan, Ilorin, or Akure our home this time around. We want Osun United to enjoy the privilege accrued to a home team so that home supporters would support them in Osogbo.

“Our first focus is to make our stadium, what I call the Osun National Stadium, the Osogbo Township Stadium to be better for both home and away teams so that our pitch would be very admirable.

“I am using this opportunity to appeal to the government of Osun State that we are late already and need to kick start the process to make our stadium very appreciable to host the league. That’s our first job.”

Further,
ITREALMS gathered that Fanawopo garnered 20 votes out of the 37 votes while Ishola got 17 votes.
