The Nigeria Civil Society (NCS) Situation Room has elected Dr Y.Z Ya’u as its Convener in an election held during its strategy meeting on Thursday, 8th June 2023, reports ITREALMS.
The platform of about 80 organisations also elected two co-conveners.
Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre at the NCS Secretariat, informed ITREALMS at the weekend, that Dr. Y.Z Yau, a leading and longstanding human rights activist of repute is the Executive Director of Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD).
Based in Kano, Dr. Yau was very active in the struggle against military dictatorship in the 1990s. He was one of the alternate chairs of the Situation Room between 2018 to 2020.
ITREALMS also gathered that the newly elected co-conveners are Mimidoo Achakpa of Women Rights to Education Programme (WREP), Abuja and Franklin Oloniju of Life & Peace Development Organisation (LAPDO), Akure.
A new steering committee was also elected representing the six geo-political zones and different thematic areas. Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) continues to be the secretariat.
