The 2023 Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum (AFPIF) has opened in the city of Accra, Ghana, reports ITREALMS.
She also said that Ghana has connected most of the tertiary institutions in the country and training over 11,000 girls in information and communication technologies.
The minister equally called for closing of ranks among African countries through Internet Exchange points to drive down the cost of internal connectivity and share of contents across he continent.
Earlier, in his opening remarks as the premium sponsor for 2023 AFPIF, the Country Manager at MainOne Ghana, Mr. Emmanuel Kwarteng welcomed participants and promised that MainOne will continue to support AFPIF moving forward, stressing this is the second time the company is sponsoring the forum.
Other speakers at the opening ceremony included the President, Ghana Internet Service Providers (GISPA), Mr. Michael Nfodzo, AfPIF organisers (AFIX), Kyle Spencer, father of Ghana Internet Community, Prof. Nii Quaynor and Deputy Director-General, National Communication Authority (NCA), Prof. Ezer Osei Yeboah-Boateng.
ITREALMS gathered that AfPIF 2023 is a two-day event holding between 22 to 24 August 2023 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Ghana.
AfPIF is an annual conference that aims at promoting the development of national and cross-border interconnection and offers the African technical community a unique opportunity to showcase interconnection challenges and opportunities, thereby focuses on Internet interconnection dynamics, content distribution, and transit obstacles at local and regional levels.
In addition, ITREALMS gathered that AfPIF aims at fostering peering and networking opportunities by providing a forum where key players, namely the infrastructure and service providers, IXPs, regulators, and policy makers could engage in a relaxed but business-like environment, sharing their experiences and learning from experts in the field.
