A security aide attached to the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs Nkeiruka Onyejeocha had an accidental discharge at the nation’s capital on Friday, reports ITREALMS.
The incident which occurred about 2.05pm at the domestic wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, left at least two persons injured.
An eye witness informed ITREALMS that aside one of the Minister's security aide, a member of the Aviation Security Department on duty who was attending to the security aide was also injured.
According to the eye witness, the yet to be identified male security aide, suspected to be a staff of the Department of State Security (DSS) attached to the Minister may have attempted to remove his service pistol from the pouch when inadvertent finger caused the gun to shoot with his hand still in the pouch.
While the security aide was injured on his finger, the avaition security personnel was hit by the ensuing bullet on the upper foot also known as 'dorsum of the foot' which caused bleeding and letting of blood stains on the floor of the airport.
It was gathered that the discharge rattled the entire local airport and especially other passengers who initially scampered for safety and later gathered at the scene in effort to know what exactly happened.
Further, ITREALMS gathered that the injured aide and staff were immediately rushed to airport clinic for treatment especially first aid before any referal would be made.
Senior Police officer suspected to be her chief security detail was invited to the scene before the seemingly unhappy Mrs Onyejeocha was led to the boarding area of the airport at about 14.40pm.
Passengers who reacted to the accidental discharge thanked God that no life was lost.
