The Managing Director of AlphaBeta Consulting LLP, Otunba Akin Doherty and the first lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya (Dr) Aishatu Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed have been conferred with the honourary fellowships of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), reports ITREALMS.This came as over 40 Information Technology professionals were also conferred with fellowship at the 2023 Nigeria Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA).
Welcome guests at the event held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan-Lagos Island, NCS President, Prof. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu said NITMA was initiated to celebrate inventors, achievers, champions and those that have broken barriers in Computer Science cum Information Technology.
The honourary fellowships, Prof. Aliyu said, are conferred on some individuals who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary service and commitment to IT growth in Nigeria, while professional fellowship are conferred on deserving members of NCS who are recognised as authorities and have distinguished themselves through significant contributions to the growth of IT in the country.
ITREALMS recalled that Otunba Doherty was recently decorated with a merit award by the Ijebu Professional Excellence Foundation as an illustrious son of Ijebu, who in the last 40 years has traversed as colossus; seasoned administrator, Barrister and solicitor as well as a Chartered accountant both in private and public sectors, across financial services, risk management, computer systems implementation, marketing, transformation strategy, consulting services and business administration.
A United Kingdom (UK)-certified Computer Systems Auditor, Otunba Akin Doherty holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with specialization in Marketing Management from the Obafemi Awolowo University, lIe-lfe. He also has a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom and became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria after successfully completing the bar vocational course at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.
A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Institute of Management Consultants, Institute of Credit Administration and a distinguished member of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Institute of Directors (IoD) and Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Otunba Doherty before now has attended many knowledge-enhancing Executive Education Courses at the Inter Africa Consulting Group of South Africa, London School of Economics, Manchester Business School and London Business School.
Obviously a pioneer Commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State, Otunba Akin Doherty equally served as Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, which followed his successful tenure in Office as the Special Adviser on Information Technology and Management Services to the Lagos State Governor and served variously in other state and nationwide committees.
Doubling as the Chairman, Manchester Consulting Limited, Manchester Construction and Services Limited, as well as Wemimo Farms Limited, Otunba Doherty is a Director of Continental Broadcasting Services Limited, as well as Afkar Publishing Company Limited.
On the other hand, Hajiya (Dr) Aisha Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in 2021 in founded Al-Muhibbah Institute of ICT and Entrepreneurship in Abuja under her NGO. The institute was establish to promote digital literacy and entrepreneurship skills relevant to the advancement of Nigeria and global economy. The institute is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
In 2023, she opened the Al-Muhibbah Open University with study centers in Abuja and Bauchi respectively. The university is registered in accordance to the tertiary agencies and the National Universities Commission (NUC).
ITREALMS gathered that NITMA 2023 featured IT Personality of the Year, IT Company of the year, Digital Governor of the year, IT Gold Merit Award, Youth Innovators award and Technology Innovation award (TechBank award) among others.
