A senior maritime journalist, Dr Ovie Edomi has been elected the new chairman of the Federated Maritime Media Chapel (FMMC) under the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) reports ITREALMS.
The new FMMC executives led by Dr Edomi, ITREALMS gathered, also include Mr. Gboyega Oni as Vice Chairman; Mr Felix Kumuyi as Secretary; Babajide Okeowo, Assistant Secretary; Mrs Shullamite Foyeku, Treasurer; Joy Eso Brown, Financial Secretary; and Lod Onyeji, Auditor, whereas Messrs Okey Iroegbu and Funso Olojo are the Ex Officio.
They will be in office for the next three years.
ITREALMS recollects that Dr Edomi, a proud member of Times Journalism Alumni Association (TJAA) has over three decades of journalism practice experience and holds a PhD in Mass Communication wirh speciality in development communication from Babcock University.
Edomi had worked with TELL magazine for over a decade before becoming the Business/Maritime Editor of Money Post, and in 2006 established South South International magazine.
A former publicity Secretary of Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, Edomi was equally a former president, League of Maritime Editors and former media Consultant to Maritime Academy of Nigeria.
He hails from Eku, Delta State and pledged to run an open administration that will be fair to all members with members welfare top on agenda.
The FMMC election held on Tuesday was supervised by a delegation led by the Chairman, Lagos Council of NUJ, Mr Adeleye Ajayi who also administered the oath of office on the new executives.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Edomi expressed appreciation to the NUJ Lagos Council Chairman, Adeleye Ajayi and his team for insightful leadership that led to successful exercise at FMMC.
