An estimated sum of N400 million is needed to complete the national secretariat of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), reports

This is coming as over 40 Information Technology professionals have been conferred with fellowship of NCS in addition to two honourary fellows.

Disclosing these at the 2023 Nigeria Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA) held at the MUSON Center, Onikan-Lagos Island, the President, NCS, Prof. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu said the national secretariat code-named “Center of Excellence’ is still an ongoing.

The building, he revealed has now been roofed while the outer part has been plastered, screed and windows mounted with soft frame.

“A total of about N400 million is still needed tom complete the building,” he declared, urging for support of public spirited and benevolent individuals and corporate organisations for the completion of this essential edifice,” Prof. Aliyu said.

He also enjoined members to make out time to visit the secretariat to see the progress made by themselves.

In addition, NCS, he said, still need continuous support of notable individuals, corporate organistions and government in some major programmes of the society.

Some of these, NCS president outlined to include its Artificial Intelligence Summit, Cyber security Forum and Workshop, NCS Technology Innovation Development Programme, Jim Ovia Scholarship programme, Cisco/Oracle Training, National IT Competition, International Conference among other trainings and workshops.

He expressed gratitude to all those who have supported NCS so far.

“Sincerely, the supports from our strategic partners have been immense,” he said.

Further, Prof. Aliyu revealed that the chairman of Zenith Bank plc, Dr. Jim Ovia has continued to fund the yearly NCS Scholarship Fund to support some 35 students of Computer Science and IT-related courses in Nigeria tertiary institutions.

“Mr. Jim Ovia has been funding NCS scholarship programme since 2015,” he asserted, stressing that the scholarship recipients have been additionally promised automatic employment in any of Jim Ovia organisations, provided such beneficiaries graduated with a minimum of second class upper division in their courses of study.

“The entire NCS membership is grateful for his kind, noble and generous heart. His dedication to IT education and human capital development is highly commendable and worthy of emulation. May God continue to keep and bless him,” Prof. Aliyu prayed.
