The Lagos Motor Show (LMS) has made history with its debut edition, declared the renowned classic car collector, Chief Olu Okeowo and Emir of Borgu in Niger State, Alhaji Muhammed Haliru Dantoro, reports ITREALMS.

Speaking during the opening ceremony at the maiden edition of Lagos Motor Show at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday, both Okeowo and the Emir extolled the concept and organisers led by Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, for the efforts.

Chief Okeowo commended Engr. Adebayo, saying it takes the mind of a nationalist and patriotism to put the Lagos Motor Show together.

“When you buy cars, they are meant to be kept well. A man can be seen and predicted by the kind of cars he drive,” Okeowo said, stressing that keeping history of the past is very important.

“So indeed, your past says a lot about your future,” he said.

Okeowo applauded Engr. Adebayo for a successful good career, which has attracted good people to him over good causes.

He prayed for the sustenance of this Lagos Motor Show, saying that vehicles of the past, which are the heritage of the past will be used for preservation so as to have a better future tomorrow.

“All we have to do is to preserve the things of the past, because we all know that what you are trying to do is to preserve the old cars which have values for the future,” he said, just as he called for the preservation of the economy of this country.

Equally speaking, the Emir declared, “Lagos Motor Show has made history,” as he invited stakeholders to support the initiative to sustain the objective of the show, part of which is making history by enabling participants to be part of the history themselves through touch and feel of classic and vintage cars in Nigeria.

He also called on Nigerians to be calm in the face of growing hardship in the country and pray for leaders to have human face in their policy making.

Additionally, the emir advised the government to recognise the traditional institutions and work collaboratively for a better society and not limit their relationship to electioneering or campaign seasons.

“Relations with traditional institution must be during campaign and after,” he said.
