A 23-year-old Igbo lady, Favour Chisimdi Emerald Nwobodo has been honoured with an international award recently for speaking 11 languages fluently without leaving Nigeria's shores, reports ITREALMS.This history was made as Chisimdi, a gifted linguist who speaks fluent Igbo, Korean, Swahili, Shona, Indonesian, Filipino, Spanish, German, French, Chinese, and English, bagged the Huff Prize for social enterprise.
For instance, Igbo language is spoken by over 44 million people as at end of January 2024 and is dominant in the Eastern part of Nigeria.
ITREALMS gathered that Chisimdi who hails from Nkanu in Enugu State, learnt to speak all the languages without going offshore but living in Nigeria.
Also, ITREALMS gathered that Chisimdi is attempting to add Yoruba and some other major languages to her list, though she is studying to become a doctor of medicine.
Chisimdi, it was gathered is expected to graduate from the University of Nigeria where she has been pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree by end of 2024 academic year.
Currently, Chisimdi is the Director of Operations at the Lagos-based Empress Linguistics Services, her social enterprise, which promises to making transactions across borders easier for business owners with languages.
As said by Chisimdi recently in her LinkedIn page that she wrote her first research article on Linguists in Business to Harvard Business Review and was accepted.
ITREALMS further gathered that Chisimdi in 2022 won the Pulse Africa award and in 2019 she was adjudged to win the prestigious Hult Prize for changing the world through social enterprise.
