Police: Miyetti Allah vigilante not recognised — ITREALMS

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police (CP) Mr. Umar Shehu Nadada, has declared the nomad vigilante group recently launched in Nasarawa State by Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore as illegal and unrecognized.

According to NewsExpress, the CP Shehu made the declaration when the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nasarawa State Council, paid him a courtesy call in his office at the State Command Headquarters Shenda Road in Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday.

“The Nomad vigilante group are on their own. No formal report to the police about the formation of the group. I do not recognize them. Nobody informed the police. We condemn the group,” the CP said.

He assured members of NUJ that the state command is determined and committed to work in synergy with practising journalists in the state for effective information dissemination on the activities of the police; calling on journalists to seek and verify information from the appropriate authority before publication for the public consumption.

News Express reports that the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Bello Bodejo, on January 17, 2024, inaugurated over 1144 Nomad vigilante group in Nasarawa State, a situation which triggered public reaction and apprehension in the state and beyond.

Shehu however decried on the recent skirmishes that rocked Toto LGC communities where some individuals were reported killed and property destroyed as well as the activities of kidnappers in some parts of the state assuring that the command has embarked on a proactive measure to curb criminal elements in the state: appealing to stake holders in the state to always embrace peace in order to enable meaningful development to strive.

Earlier, the Nasarawa State Chairman NUJ, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, lauded CP Shehu for his frantic efforts towards combating crime in the state and urged the security operatives to continue with the gesture. He assured that journalists in the state will give the command the desired support in order for him to succeed in carrying out his operations aimed at protecting the citizenry.
