The newest Miss Philanthropy Africa, Ms Antoinette Letsholo, from the land of diamonds, Botswana, has declared she will stand up for fairness and champion community growth during her tenure, in this encounter with REMMY NWEKE in Nigeria.
Please introduce yourself briefly?
I am Antoinette Letsholo, the newly crowned Miss Philanthropy Africa. I am a dedicated advocate for philanthropy and community development. I hail from the land of diamonds, Botswana. Botswana is located in the southern region of Africa.
What brought you to Nigeria?
I visited Nigeria to participate in the esteemed Miss Philanthropy Africa competition, having emerged as a finalist in the pageant.
How did you emerge to represent Botswana?
Being selected as Botswana’s representative was an honor for me. I embraced the responsibility wholeheartedly. It was a recognition of my continuous dedication to philanthropy and service to my community in Botswana.
When you left Botswana, did you think winning the crown was possible?
Winning was definitely a goal, but I also knew it wouldn’t be easy. I wasn't the only philanthropist, I competed with amazing ladies from other African countries who have equally done excellently well in their respective communities. I hoped for the best.
However, I was also prepared for any outcome. For me, representing my country excellently on this platform was a dream come true even if I didn't emerge as the winner, I knew I gave my best.
During the pageant, what was going on in your mind?
All through the competition, my mind was focused on effectively sharing my passion for philanthropy and showcasing my dedication to making a difference. I remained centered on the importance of the cause and the opportunity to inspire change.
How do you see the programme entirely since arriving Nigeria?
Incredible. Since my arrival in Nigeria, I have been amazed by how friendly and welcoming everyone is. The programme was well-organized, and I learnt a lot. I also made valuable connections which I intend to keep for life. It has been a really enriching experience.
What came with the prize?
Winning the crown brought with it a sense of honor and recognition for my dedication to philanthropy not just in my country but Africa. Now that you have been crowned, what will be your personal mission during your reign?
As Miss Philanthropy Africa, I will lend my voice to those who are often overlooked and segregated. I will stand up for fairness, and champion projects that help communities grow and become stronger.
After your reign, any plans for the future?
After my reign as Miss Philanthropy Africa, I intend to continue helping others to find new ways to make things better. I will continue working on projects that help communities, whether starting something new or teaming up with other groups. Helping people and creating sustainable impact will always be the goal.
If you have the opportunity, will you like it hosted in Nigeria again?
I think Nigeria would still be a great place to host the competition again. The people here are amazing, and it’s being such a wonderful experience. However, if given the opportunity, I would love to see the competition hosted in my country, Botswana. I believe it would be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our country's rich culture and hospitality, while promoting philanthropy and community engagement on a global stage.
Any word for Africans especially women or young ladies?
My message to Africans, especially women and young ladies, is to never underestimate the difference you can make. We are capable of creating change, and together, we are unstoppable.
What word do you have for the organisers?
I truly appreciate the organizers for making this opportunity possible. It has being an incredible journey, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be part of it. I hope to work with this organization for a very long time which goes beyond my reign as Miss Philanthropy Africa.
