South-South leaders on Thursday urged Nigerians not to work in the shadow of individuals and groups spreading lies.
They also heaped praise on the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio for the tremendous work he is doing for Nigeria.
"Senator Godswill Akpabio is a gifted leader, a man of integrity and conviction," they said.
The leaders in a statement in Port Harcourt advised Nigerians not to award certificate of merits to people working against the country's ruling party.
"The move to discredit the leadership of the Senate by concocting lies will only damage the reputation of critics and expose their sinister intention to Nigerians."
The statement issued by the Chairman of South-South Front (SSF), Chief John Harry lauded Akpabio for bringing a much-needed perspective to the Senate, providing necessary strategic direction to move Nigeria forward.
"We are proud of Akpabio's problem solving skills," they also said.
The leaders described a lawsuit by a Lagos based organisation as a cheap, sleazy publicity stunt.
The statement lauded Akpabio for his courage, perseverance, generosity and commitment to democratic values and a just society governed by law.
It highlighted integrity of purpose, exalted patriotism and charming manner of the Senate President.
The statement also underscored Akpabio's loyalty, principles, strong leadership and deep knowledge of the legislative process.
