The Aeronautical Information Management Association of Nigeria (AIMAN) has called on the Federal Government (FG) to exempt the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) from the compulsory 50 per cent deduction from source, reports ITREALMS.
This appeal, he said, has become necessary because NAMA is a cost recovery agency.
"There is an urgent need to revisit and review the new policy and that NAMA should be exempted from the compulsory 50% deduction from source," he appealed.
Ngerem pointed out that air travel safety and other factors should be taken into consideration in order to come up with a win-win solution for all parties involved.
He equally underscored the importance of training of AIS personnel to the overall success of the AIS automation.
"An organization is only as good as its workforce, as this forms the bedrock of its assets. Once you take away the human element, the system has no other foundation to stand upon," he declared.
Therefore, he urged the management of NCAA, NAMA and NCAT to prioritize the trainings of AIS/AIM personnel.
Commending NAMA chief executive for the recent consideration and approval of comprehensive medical check-up of all staff, Ngerem noted, it would minimize the rate at which staff fall ill and die.
Ngerem also appealed to the management of NAMA, to speed up the process of implementation of the scheme to give staff some assurances that "their wellbeing is being given the attention it deserves."
It is imperative to state that AIMAN believes in continuous engagements and negotiations with the relevant stakeholders in developing a regulatory framework for the Licensing of AIS Professionals as safety is a necessary requirement for safe air navigation.
