ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
The Federal Government of Nigeria has concluded plans to upskill heads of Information Technology (IT) in the nation's Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) through a course on Responsible Data Management, targeting some 10,000 public servants, reports ITREALMS.Disclosing this in a press statement available to ITREALMS and endorsed by the Head, Research & Development at the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Tolulope Pius-Fadipe, said that the four months free course is in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, through NDPC office and Data.Org.
Fadipe also said that the free online course resource is targeted at equipping public servants with the fundamentals of ethical data management.
"It bridges the theoretical aspects of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 with practical knowledge of data rights and responsibilities, helping public servants navigate data management complexities and mitigate vulnerabilities in public service," Fadipe said.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, was also quoted as saying that this partnership between the NDPC and Data.Org is the first in a series of engagements that have been planned to equip civil servants responsible for data management.
This, he said, would come "with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate and engage in a rapidly developing work environment that is being enabled by the implementation of Digital Public Infrastructure.”
The Responsible Data Management Course is designed for Heads of IT, Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), Data Protection Officers (DPOs), IT & Cybersecurity Personnel, and Officers in roles that deal with data processing and privacy within Federal and State MDAs.
Additionally, NDPC chief, Dr. Vincent Olatunji pointed out that this course is regarded as a platform to train 10,000 public servants in data management between June 19 and October 2024 under four cohorts, just as registration has commenced since May 28, 2024.
