The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the election time table for the Anambra State governorship election on Saturday, November 8, 2025, reports ITREALMS.
INEC also stated that submission of Forms EC9 and EC 9B would be online at the Nomination Portal. Stressing that this would commence by 9am on April 18th, 2025 and must close by 6pm on May 12, 2025, insisting that the date of election, will hold on November 8, 2025.
INEC also pointed out that access code for the nomination portal, ITREALMS gathered, will be available for collection on April 10, 2025 at the Commission's headquarters.
ITREALMS gathered that by the virtue of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the tenure of the Governor of Anambra State will expire on the 17th day of March 2026.
Therefore, INEC in pursuant to Section 178 (2) of the same Constitution said, election into the said office shall hold not earlier than One Hundred and Fifty (150) days and not later than Thirty (30) days before the expiration of the term of office of` the last holder of that office.
Although, “The earliest date for Election into the office of Governor, Anambra State, shall be the 17th day of October 2025 and the latest date for the Election shall be 15th day of February 2026.”
The Commission noted that as empowered by Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 to issue 'Notice for the election' not later than Three Hundred and Sixty (360) days before the date of the election.
“It is in exercise of the powers conferred on INEC by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022 and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Commission hereby issues this Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2025 Governorship Election in Anambra State,” the notice stated.
