NLNG celebrates media practitioners' tenacity in news reportage - ITREALMS

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, NLNG sets aside a day to celebrate the media practitioners/reporters for their exceptional coverage and indepth analysis in their story writing on the remarkable achievement of the Nigeria Prizes in the last two decades, reports ITREALMS.

The event tagged "Celebrating The Voices of Impact: Nigeria Prizes @20" held at Marriott Hotel, Ikeja had a one-off awards to recognised and appreciates Journalists from broadcast, print and online media for their incisive reporting and creativity in bringing to lime lights the activities of the NLNG prizes of Science, Prizes of Literature over the last 20years to the public not only in Nigeria but around the World.

Speaking, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, NLNG, Mr. Andy Odeh said the event is done for the first time, to celebrate and honour media practitioners/journalists for their exceptional reporting of the most prestigious awards of prizes since inauguration in 2004.


"The media, especially Journalist has been the bridge between us and the public, without the bridge, nobody will know about the prizes, having achieved 20years of running the prizes or sponsoring the prizes, we felt that it's important at this point before the grand award night on the 11th of October to bring together our friends in the media, who have been reporting the Nigeria Prizes for Literature, Prizes for Science and Prizes of Literary Criticism, so, we felt it was a good time to do that and doing that ,we recognised and appreciates what they have been doing, quality of journalism and reporters "
He said.


He maintained that there have been eighteen winners in twenty years from three thousand entries drawn from science and Literature, nineteen winners over twelve years for Literary Criticism.

Mr. Andy Odeh enjoins media to write more in-depth analysis around press release using it as a basis for their reports, also calls for content documentation as regards their stories for access in future, adding that 20years from now, what is being done today should be accessible.

The General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development announced the introduction of NLNG Prizes of Energy " for journalists reporting" energy in Nigeria from next year while the criteria will based on quality of reporting, level of engagements and in-depth analysis of what happens in the energy space.

As part of the activities of the event, Manager, Corporate Commission and Public Affairs, NLNG, Mrs Anne-Marie Palmer Kuku presented four distinguished awards of recognition to media stakeholders that have contributed and delivered value to the organisation's prizes cum brands in the last 20years.

Mr Teh Agbedeh was recognised as Most Consistent Journalist for his unwavering dedication by attending every press-briefing and events regardless of circumstances, Mr Gabriel Akinadewo got Most Versatile Journalist award, Mr. Sopuruchi Onwuka recognised as Most Engaging Journalist in thought-provoking questions and Mrs Chidinma Agu of News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)Most punctuality award.

ITREALMS gathered that Nigeria LNG Limited is the proud sponsor of three of the biggest and most prestigious Prizes in Africa for Nigeria.

The Nigeria Prize for Science and Prize for Literature each worth USD 100,000 in award money while, the Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism with a 1million Naira cash reward.

The Nigeria Prizes grand award night comes up on Friday, 11th October,2024.
