Ricca-Odunfa retains title @3rd Hon. Afinni Unity Cup - ITREALMS

The defending champions, Ricca-Odunfa has retained their title for the second time after a 3-1 victory over Araromi, at the 3rd edition of Hon. Afinni Unity Cup final match held at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, reports ITREALMS.

The organiser and host of the tournament, Hon. Olarenwaju Afinni who represents Lagos Island II, in House of Assembly, enjoined the Island youths to persevere in their pursuits as there are prospects ahead, indicating his readiness to always promote the exceptional ones.

Hon. Afinni expressed optimism as some youths has been identified by some scouts, as this will avail them a livelihood of being reckoned with in the international champions league.

Also speaking, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youths and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, who kicked-off the final match, urged the Island youths to continue to foster the inter-communal relationship being portrayed through sports, peaceful co-existence and be vigilant from drug pandemic cum cultism.

"Lagos Island youths are very integral in everything we do in Lagos State because this is the centre of Centre of Excellence" Ogunlende said.

For Hon. Desmond Elliot, representing Surulere at the House of Assembly, he commended Afinni's initiatives in elevating grassroots football, he advised the Island youths to continue being a game changer.

Executive Chairman Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Muibi Alade Folawiyo described the tournament as the most coordinated one, which has been a bridge of unity among the communities in Lagos Island.
He advised the youths to be good ambassadors in their respective domains.

Ricca-Odunfa team beat Araromi 3-1 to clinch the trophy with 1 million Naira cheque, while Araromi team got a cheque of N750,000 for second place position, Anikantama/Swamp received N500,000 only cheque, for the 3rd place position at the finals played at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena.

The event had in attendance APC Excos from State, LGs, National, political leaders, top government functionaries, sponsors, fans among other dignitaries while Suleiman Alao Malaika thrilled the audience to a melodious rhythm.
