Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has made significant changes to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) by dismissing the board chairman, Pius Akinyelure, and the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mele Kyari, effective April 2, 2025, reports ITREALMS.This move, according to presidency sources, is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, and driving sectoral reforms.
The new leadership includes Ahmadu Musa Kida as the non-executive chairman and Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group Chief Executive Officer. Kida, a seasoned expert in the oil sector, has extensive experience in petroleum engineering and management. Ojulari, on the other hand, has worked with top oil companies like Shell and Elf Aquitaine.
The revamped 11-member board also includes representatives from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, ensuring a diverse and inclusive leadership.

ITREALMS gathered are Bello Rabiu for North-West, North-East: Yusuf Usman, North-Central: Babs Omotowa, South-South: Austin Avuru, South-West: David Ige, and South-East: Henry Obih.
Additionally, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya from the Federal Ministry of Finance and Aminu Said Ahmed from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources will serve as representatives of their respective ministries.
President Tinubu has tasked the new board with several key objectives, including reviewing NNPCL's operational and joint venture assets to align them with national economic goals; boosting oil production to two million barrels per day by 2027 and three million barrels daily by 2030; increasing gas production to eight billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and ten billion cubic feet by 2030; elevating NNPCL's refining capacity to 200,000 barrels per day by 2027 and 500,000 barrels per day by 2030
